It wasn't raining when we left. The ground was relatively dry as we walked. It seemed as though it had hardly rained during the night. But as we approached the owls, it began to drizzle and then it poured and poured and poured. As soon as we looked up,we were all mesmerized by the incredible views of this beautiful Great Horned Owlet. We watched for about one half hour and then, after getting soaked, some people began to walk back to their cars.
As the rest of us were about ready to leave, Billy Spink came out from way behind the nesting tree.  He found the other owlet and this one was even closer. This bird was sitting on a nearby branch in a full unobstructed view, perhaps thirty feet up. We forget it was raining as everyone gaped at this adorable owl. We stayed another half hour as some of us took photos. The light wasn't very good and the weather was miserable but everyone went home very happy!
The big story wasn't the pouring rain, it was the amazing views of a Great Horned Owlet! (and the people who got there at 8AM to see it.)

Easy to see without binoculars!

This is one of the owls taken in the rain. It was difficult to photograph them in the poor light. Photo by Billy Spink.
