Saturday was a gorgeous day. Not so for our Sunday Duckwalk. It was cold and damp and everything was still wet from the past evening's rain. When I got to Hunter Island I thought I would be alone but soon a few more hardy guys arrived. It turned out to be an all male event.
We were dismayed to hear that unleashed dogs are still hunting and scaring up small game in the area. As I wrote in my previous e-mail, people from other areas feel it's Ok to to train their hunting dogs here in PBPK. I also witnessed a new Mercedes returning to the parking lot after driving on the paved walking path that leads to the pine grove on Hunter Island. Actions such as these disturb birds and other wildlife and create a danger to walkers.
We first walked along Orchard Beach and had a few very distant and unsatisfying looks at Bufflehead, Black Duck, Red-breasted Merganser and some other unidentified species. We then walked around Twin Island and had some great looks. Here were the same birds but they were fairly close. There were also a considerable amount of Brant and two Great Blue Herons.
We circled back through Hunter Island to try to find an owl but no such luck. Although there weren't a great many species, it was a very enjoyable morning.

L to R, Billy, George, Paul, Jack and Peter.
This was an unexpected reunion for Billy and George who hadn't seen each other for years and were childhood friends from the "hood."
