Walk for Early Spring Migrants and Great Horned Owlets

Sunday, April 8

8:30 AM

Meet at the Orchard Beach Parking Lot

Basic Information:

Our walks are free, informal, friendly and fun. The walks usually last about 4 hours,  depending on many variables, which include weather, birds, and fatigue. If you want to leave early, there are no hard feelings.

Please come prepared! Bring binoculars and a field guide if you have one. I will bring a spotting scope but feel free to bring your own if you have one.

Beginners especially welcome!

Sorry, no dogs!

Please email me if you need directions!

Spring migrants are trickling into the park. This past weekend we had Palm Warblers, Golden- crowned Kinglets,Great-blue Herons, Brown Creepers, Glossy Ibis and more. Birds could be arriving all week. Our resident Great Horned Owl has two owlets that she is hiding low in the hollowed tree trunk. By next week we should be able to get a better look.

Feel free to bring a camera but no flash. We need to be quiet and not stress this bird.

The weather looks tricky. If it’s raining, we will not walk. However, if the weather is a bit damp and gray, we will go. If you’re not sure, check the webpage and I will post a cancellation by

7:00 AM on that day, or if it looks like definite downpours, the evening before the walk.

We meet inside the Orchard Beach Parking Lot,  drive toward the beach and park on the left, north, side.

If you have any questions, email me, jack@cityislandbirds.com.

Please be aware that there is public transportation but I cannot pick up anyone at the station. If you want to come by subway, email me, and I will give you directions.
